I just bought the Panasonic NNSD697S Stainless Steel 1300 Watt Microwave Oven, for $100 at Costco. I previously owned an 1,100 watt Panasonic microwave oven that lasted me for 8 years of excellent service before it stopped heating and then started smoking one day. So, I was pretty much pre-sold on the Panasonic brand.

However, this model disappoints me. The LED time display is dim and reads "All 8s"; it is hard to see at any angle other than direct-on. The time has to be entered using a pop-out dial, or by the "1 minute" button. You can't use the two methods with each other; either you use the dial or the 1-minute button. The more/less time button only works with pre-programmed cooking functions, either reducing or increasing the pre-determined cook time by 10%.

The dial adds time in increasingly larger increments; the more time that is entered, the more the time changes with each turn of the dial. At larger time amounts, over 5 minutes, you can only change the...

Heats well, but kills WiFi with stray noise
Pros:
It is a compact, lightweight microwave.
It does an above average job of thawing frozen foods.
It does an above average job of reheating uncovered entrees.
It appears to be one of the most uniformly heating microwaves that I have ever used.

Cons:
1) It emits so much radio frequency noise that it shuts down the 2.4GHz (802.11G) wireless router for our computers that is 40' away. A call to Panasonic had a technician that stated this was normal(!), and suggested if we were concerned we could have it check for stray microwaves.
2) It does not deliver as much heat into a cup of liquid as an older GoldStar microwave of ~1100W, i.e. heating takes longer despite a higher power.

Minor annoyances: The light only comes on when the klystron is active, and the grill is difficult to see through so it can be difficult to judge when items are sufficiently heated.

Poorly Designed Door
We bought this microwave oven at Sams Club. We like it and the sensor reheat option is very nice.

Sadly, the door latching system is a cheap, poor design. IT shuts but not enough to turn the light off.

We have to slam the door shut to get it to work properly.

It works but has some major drawbacks.
We bought this unit to fit into an under-counter space vacated by a similar-sized Panasonic microwave that died after a few years.

The unit does cook as promised but has some drawbacks that caused us to downgrade it as follows:

1) This is the WORST display we have ever seen on any product. It can only be read looking head-on (in not too bright ambient light). From any other angle, the numbers are virtually invisible or overlapped by the interior display "wires". Because we have an under-counter installation, we need to go down on one knee to read the display.

2) There are too many buttons - too many "bells and whistles"; too much clutter. We see no use for breakfast, lunch and dinner buttons each with its own time limit (and with ability to add/subtract time). As with the display, the user needs to be at eye level to read the button labels and figure out what to push.

3) The interior light only works during cooking; opening the door...

Outstanding
I bought this model to replace a 4 year-old turntable microwave that claimed to have 1400W power. Whatever that one could do, this one does better. At 1000W it cooks faster and despite the lack of a turntable it heats more evenly than any of the several microwaves I've owned over the past 25-30 years. For the first time in my experience, microwaved bacon comes out completely even with no burnt or raw spots. Defrosting is quick and consistent. The extra space and flexibility you get by eliminating the turntable are very useful. It seems much bigger than 1 cu. ft. Like probably most users, I need microwave mostly for defrosting and re-heating rather than full-scale cooking. This oven has a number of extra features I'll rarely use, if ever, and thus cannot evaluate. But for "standard" everyday use I can't see anything that needs improvement.

Don't buy. My experience with this Panasonic microwave (Model NE-1054F)has been terrable. We had it for 1 month before we had to ship it back for service. After it was repaired and sent back, we used it about 1 week before it had to be sent back again. After it was repaired again it was shipped back with the door misaligned. When I called Panasonic, I was given a new phone number to call which was never answered. Based on our experience, we would not recommend that you purchase it.

Imagine engineering teams coming together to build a really good microwave. Then a 10 year old comes along and designs the dial on the panel. This is what comes to mind when you use this microwave for the first time. Instead of a dial knob or buttons to enter the heat time for your microwave (the most basic operation you will use every single time), someone decided it would be cool to use a touch sensitive dial instead. Ok, that is cool if the touch sensor is to only 'touch' and select options. Not when you have to slide your finger along the outer end of the sensor in perfect clockwise circles and pretend you are turning a knob. It is very clunky, error prone and hypersensitive. You end up going too high or too low for the time you are trying to set, then have to reverse your circles till you get it just right. And all I'm trying to do here is set it to 30 seconds and start!
